Confidential Information Policy
Many AI systems retain, log, or use submitted inputs to improve their models. This is rarely appropriate for confidential professional information.

1. Do not submit
Unless you are explicitly authorized — by your employer, by your client, by the applicable contracts, and by law — do not submit any of the following into third-party AI systems:
- Confidential employer information
- Trade secrets and proprietary research
- Proprietary or unreleased source code
- Medical records and protected health information
- Financial records and account credentials
- Legal files, privileged communications, and sealed materials
- Passwords, API keys, and access tokens
- Personally identifiable information about colleagues, clients, students, or patients
2. If in doubt, redact
Strip names, identifiers, account numbers, dates, and any other specifics. Use synthetic examples that capture the structure of your problem without exposing real data.
3. Check your employer's policy
Most organizations now have AI usage policies that constrain what may be entered into external AI tools. Follow yours. When this site's guidance conflicts with your employer's policy, follow your employer's policy.
4. Our responsibility
